A big thank you to Theresa Ebden, chair of JHR’s Development and Advisory Council, for her work leading a crack team of JHR champions. The group includes Farzad Alvi and Bobby Walman (both JHR board members), Ian Delaney, Scott White, Pav Jordan, John Macfarlane, Liz Mulholland, Kaley Pulfer, Cornell Wright and Graeme Harris. JHR created the council in late 2016 and early 2017: its mandate is to provide strategic advice while reaching out to prospective corporate and foundation supporters to help us grow.

Theresa Ebden says: “Our new Development and Advisory Council has a mandate to strengthen support for our organization with new and current supporters, as we work toward taking JHR to the next level of awareness and sponsorship engagement, to enable us to expand and develop the programs that are so critically needed at this time to enable human rights media around the world.”

Rodney Sieh, founder of the Liberian online news site Front Page Africa, and current Fisher Fellow at Massey College, University of Toronto, spoke with the canvassers about the relevance and urgency of his work with JHR on press freedom.

Donors to the corporate canvass have the opportunity to be recognized in a unique JHR feature in the Toronto Star in the four weeks leading up to the JHR Gala in October, and one week afterwards. So far, the canvass has raised half of its $ 50,000 goal so far. The chair, the committee and the volunteers are all confident that this goal will be reached.
