Maximize your Donation!

Where your money goes*

based on jhr's 2007 audit conducted by KPMG
As you can see, we work hard to maximize the return on your donation. For every dollar you give, you will directly help 15 people realize their rights in places like the Congo (DRC), Liberia and Sierra Leone.

Not only will your donation directly help hundreds - or thousands - of people, you can also rest assured your donation going directly to the cause. Only 3% of jhr's budget is spent on administration.

All of jhr's programs help mobilize local media to spread human rights awareness using local languages and using local cultural signposts. There is no better way to improve human rights than to donate to jhr. Click here for more information on jhr's international programs and to learn about our unique and powerful approach.

Some examples of what your donation will make possible include:
  • Daily on-the-job training: Experienced jhr journalists work side-by-side local African media practitioners to increase human rights coverage

  • Awards: Creating incentives that reward best practices in human rights reporting

  • Create national dialogue: jhr brings together local media, journalism schools, communities and policy-makers sparking national dialogue on human rights issues
As a donor, you will receive the jhr newsletter twice a year. You'll read about the tremendous work your donation makes possible and stay up to date on critical issues facing people worldwide. People like you make our work possible – thank you!

FEATURED JOURNALIST
Winston Daryoue
Works for:
Liberia Women Democracy Radio (LWDR), Liberia
Country: Liberia
Age: 22
jhr Media Trainer: Tamasin Ford

Last July, Winston Daryoue gained rare access to the Firestone rubber plantation to produce a 30-minute radio documentary about the life of a rubber tapper at the company. The plantation has been accused of gross labour violations and environmental abuse in Liberia. The documentary was picked up by national media. Daryoue says he wants to dedicate his career to reporting on human rights abuses, with a focus on gender rights. "For too long, Liberia has had a history where women have been left behind," he says, "so there's a need for an institution that will give greater priority to women's issues."
