Interviewed by ITN’s Brian Widlake on May 21, 1961, Nelson Mandela shares with the world his passion to secure the franchise for South Africa’s black population and all races worldwide. He would be arrested a year and three months after this interview, serving 18 years of a 27 year sentence. His passion for his cause and the use of the media to spread his word and helped lead the transition towards multi-racial democracy in South Africa, earning him the Nobel Peace Prize in 1993.
