Two Liberian journalists who benefited from jhr’s mentoring program have been recognized for their quality reporting and rewarded with international training opportunities.
Truth FM reporter Oniel Bestman was recently contacted by the International Committee for the Red Cross (ICRC) and commended for his excellent reporting. Bestman had just finished four months of mentorship from jhr-trainer Tamasin Ford in writing and editing radio packages. The ICRC was so impressed by his reporting skills, it selected Bestman for a12-day training program in Kenya focused on conflict sensitive reporting. It was Bestman’s first international travel opportunity.
ELBC reporter Nathan Charles was recently selected by the Thomson Reuters Foundation to receive a week of multi-media training in London, UK in September. Charles has been actively involved with jhr’s Liberia program for the past four years, and is now one of five Liberian journalists who are training their peers in human rights reporting. He continues to be mentored by jhr-trainer Bonnie Allen.
